Question Detail
Full answer from RF StateSide on this topic.
What do the RF StateSide project status labels mean?
Answer:
RF StateSide uses project status labels to describe the current development lifecycle of each project. These are separate from publication labels such as Open Source, Open Hardware, or Source Release Pending Audit.
Planning — The project is being defined, researched, or designed, but substantial implementation has not yet begun.
Prototype — An early working implementation exists, but the project remains experimental and may change significantly as the design is developed and evaluated.
Active Development — The project is currently receiving regular engineering, software, hardware, documentation, or other development work.
User Testing — The project has reached a usable state and is being evaluated in real-world use. Feedback, defects, compatibility issues, and refinements may still result in changes.
Maintenance — Major development is largely complete, but the project is still being maintained. Work may include bug fixes, compatibility updates, documentation improvements, minor enhancements, or occasional engineering changes.
Dormant — The project is not currently under active development, but it remains available as an engineering reference and may be revisited in the future.
Archived — Active development has intentionally ended and no further work is currently expected. The project is retained for historical, educational, or engineering-reference purposes.
A project's lifecycle status does not indicate whether its source code or hardware design is publicly available. Publication is shown separately.
For example, a project can be:
Dormant + Open Hardware
This means RF StateSide is not actively developing the project at present, but its hardware design has been publicly released.
Likewise, a project could be:
Active Development + Source Release Pending Audit
This means development is ongoing, but the project has not yet completed the preparation and review required for public source/design release.
